I Miss You

City lights fade in the distance
as she shuts her sleepy eyes
Saying goodnight to today
and hello to her dreams
Letting her imagination
control her story

Seeing a younger version
of herself staring up at
the popcorn ceiling
in her childhood room
Creating patterns in
her mind with the dots
that seemingly float
above her in the darkness
Reaching up to touch
the pattern that isn't there
suddenly floats away into
the universe of lost memories
she won't remember years from now
but will miss with an unfeeling passion

Shapes and colors came to life
in the colorless night, helping her
young self drift into Neverland
to see her imaginary friends
While the world rests, she misses
her innocence but seeing how she
was always meant to create
something beautiful in this life

The patterns that once lit up her nights
became the words she now writes
Creating worlds of thought and light
within pages filled with handwriting
that never seems to stay on the line
But are seemingly beautiful, floating
off her pen as effortlessly as a white
feather drifts through the morning autumn air

As the pink sky awakes her sleepy
eyes to a new day, she is ready
to write whatever words come her way
onto an empty page sure to be filled
throughout the November day
